The Washington County Leadership Institute was formed in 1997 as part of a partnership between the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) and the Sunrise County Economic Council (SCEC) to help Washington County residents develop the skills to become effective and involved participants in their community.

WCLI runs from January to April of every year and brings together a diverse range of people in small business, finance, education, service industries, health care, the nonprofit world and local or municipal government. Since its inception, WCLI has graduated 208 alumni.

Since 2002, WCLI has been administered exclusively by the Sunrise County Economic Council. For more information about the course, and how you can participate, please contact Jennifer Peters (WCLI Coordinator) at scec@sunrisecounty.org.
